Fascias, Soffits & Guttering in Glastonbury

There are several reasons you may need to replace them, from age and deterioration to an update in style or to upgrade them to more energy efficient solutions. You may need to replace them if you notice any of these signs:

• Visible cracks or damage
• Water damage or leaks
• Peeling paint
• Discolouration
• Evidence of pests or small animals
• Roof has insufficient ventilation

There are several reasons as to why your gutters may be leaking. They could be blocked, causing water to overflow, or cracked, allowing water to seep out before reaching the downpipes. Alternatively, they might be sagging or bowed, so water gathers and overflows rather than flowing freely through the pipes. The best way to find out is with a professional inspection.

In theory yes, but like any work at height, gutter clearance or repairs should not be attempted without the right training and equipment. The result will most likely be damage to your gutters, your property or even yourself.

Costs will vary depending on several factors such as the size of your home, the replacement materials/styles chosen and the length of time it may take to do the job. No two houses or jobs are the same. Contact us and we will be happy to provide a free no obligation site survey and quote.

Gutter joints are sealed with rubber seals, which perish and harden over time, especially on older plastic gutters that get a lot of sun. A blocked gutter can also cause water to back up and spill out at the joints. A leaking joint can usually be fixed by cleaning it out and replacing the joint or its seal, but if several joints are failing at once, the gutter may be reaching the end of its life.

Gutters are in place to carry rainwater as it falls from your roof. Instead of falling down the side of your home, it is redirected down the downpipes. This ensures it does not cause problems to the external walls or foundations of your home.

In a nutshell, it is an improper and unprofessional installation process. To ensure the efficiency and reliability of your replacement materials and value for money, you need to work with a professional roofing company like Secure Roofing Ltd. Call us now for a free site survey and quote.

If you can hear or see a more concentrated stream of water either hitting the ground or pouring over the tops of the gutters, then it is time to get your guttering system professionally checked. Guttering is designed to deal with rainfall, so the water should not be overflowing or leaking at any time unless it is blocked or broken. DIY gutter inspections pose all kinds of risks to your safety and the condition of your property.

Most gutters should be cleaned at least once a year, ideally in late autumn once the leaves have fallen. If your home is close to trees or your roof has a lot of moss, twice a year is better. Signs that your gutters need clearing include water overflowing in heavy rain, plants growing in the gutter and damp patches on the walls below.

While you can clean your soffits and fascias using a pressure washer, it is probably best left to the professionals like Secure Roofing Ltd. It can be dangerous on a roof if inexperienced, and you don’t want to get any water into your loft as any water leakage could potentially cause moisture, damage and mould. While the modern materials used for soffits and fascias are virtually maintenance-free, we recommend cleaning your entire eaves trough system twice a year to prevent the harmful build-up of dirt, leaves and/or debris. As clogged gutters can lead to water leaks, moisture damage and mould, we recommend a professional roof inspection twice a year to ensure that your roofing system is always performing as it should.

Well-installed gutters can last upwards of 10-25 years if they are well maintained. But after a few decades, even well-maintained gutters can become brittle/rotten and susceptible to leaks.

Capping, sometimes called cladding, means fitting new uPVC boards over the existing timber fascias. It can be a cheaper option, but it is only suitable if the timber underneath is completely sound, because any rot will carry on spreading out of sight. Full replacement removes the old boards so that any damage to the rafter ends can be repaired, and is usually the better long-term choice.
